Even though Indonesia is one of the countries that produce the most rice in the world, it is still a rice importing country. This is because farmers in Indonesia still use poor agricultural techniques and inadequate technology. Combined with a large population and high per capita consumption, Indonesia consumes rice in large quantities. There is a need for rice as a staple food for communities with high populations. However, in reality, most people who depend on agriculture remain poor. If it continues, it is felt that rice import activities will impact the economy and welfare of Indonesian rice farmers because imported rice comes in at a lower selling price, making it difficult for local farmers to compete and sell their crops. People generally prefer imported rice at a cheaper price to meet their daily food needs. Indonesia still relies on imports from other countries because domestic rice needs must be fully met. This journal was created by studying literature on related issues to determine the negative impact of rice import activities on local rice farmers, such as price and quality differences. Imported rice is cheaper than local rice based on quality and price. The difference in price between imported rice and local rice in 2022 will widen; imported rice has succeeded in occupying a lower price at the producer level when compared to the price of local rice. Efforts are needed to improve the quality and productivity of local rice. They start with adequate technology and the process of selecting seeds for harvesting because several things, including agricultural area, water content, and technological support, influence rice quality.
