Pemanfaatan Minyak Jelantah menjadi Lilin dan Sabun sebagai Upaya Peningkatan Nilai Guna Limbah melalui Pelatihan pada Kelompok Pemuda di Desa Pojok, Kota Kediri

Household waste cooking oil is still often not utilized optimally, even though it has the potential to be reprocessed into value-added products while helping reduce environmental pollution. The repeated use of cooking oil and the improper disposal of used oil are still common in community life. This community service activity aimed to improve the skills of youth groups in processing waste cooking oil into soap and candles through practice-based training. The activity was conducted in Pojok Village, Mojoroto District, Kediri City, involving 11 participants aged approximately 20-24 years. The implementation methods included material presentation, demonstrations, direct practice sessions, and simple observational evaluation of participants’ skills during the product-making process. The results showed that 10 of 11 participants were able to independently follow the stages of soap and candle production as outlined in the provided procedures. The products obtained consisted of solid soap with a relatively homogeneous texture and candles that produced a stable flame. In addition, participants actively engaged in the training through discussions and question-and-answer sessions on household waste utilization. This activity indicates that practice-based training can improve participants' basic skills while encouraging the practical use of waste cooking oil within the community.
Minyak jelantah rumah tangga masih sering belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal meskipun memiliki potensi untuk diolah kembali menjadi produk yang bernilai guna serta dapat membantu mengurangi pencemaran lingkungan. Kebiasaan penggunaan minyak goreng berulang dan pembuangan limbah tanpa pengolahan masih banyak ditemukan di lingkungan masyarakat. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan kelompok pemuda dalam memanfaatkan minyak jelantah menjadi sabun dan lilin melalui pelatihan berbasis praktik. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Kelurahan Pojok, Kecamatan Mojoroto, Kota Kediri dengan melibatkan 11 peserta pelatihan yang berusia 20-24 tahun. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui penyampaian materi, demonstrasi, praktik langsung, serta evaluasi sederhana berbasis observasi terhadap keterampilan peserta dalam mengikuti tahapan pengolahan produk. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa 10 dari 11 peserta mampu mengikuti proses pembuatan sabun dan lilin secara mandiri sesuai tahapan yang diberikan. Produk yang dihasilkan berupa sabun padat dengan tekstur cukup homogen serta lilin yang mampu menyala secara stabil. Selain itu, peserta juga menunjukkan partisipasi aktif selama kegiatan melalui diskusi dan tanya jawab terkait pemanfaatan limbah rumah tangga. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan berbasis praktik dapat membantu meningkatkan keterampilan dasar peserta sekaligus mendorong pemanfaatan minyak jelantah secara lebih aplikatif di lingkungan masyarakat.
